Southampton Woodwind Academy provides one-to-one woodwind lessons in and around Southampton. You can choose to learn the Clarinet, Flute or Saxophone up to Grade 8 standard (subject to teacher availability), with lessons taking place in the comfort of your own home.
Lessons on Recorder and Tin whistle are now also available.

All Music Teachers at Southampton Woodwind Academy meet the highest professional standards, have at least Grade 8 on their main instrument and an enhanced DBS check. Whether you are preparing to take Grade exams for ABRSM/Trinity or just learning for fun, lessons with Southampton Woodwind Academy aim to help you reach your personal goals.

Helen Gentile (left) is the founder and main woodwind teacher at Southampton Woodwind Academy. Helen is a regular gigging musician and plays with a number of groups in the Southampton area, including renowned ceilidh band, Threepenny Bit. Most recently, she performed as part of Voyages of the Heart at The Turner Sims Theatre (April 2021). This production marked the 400th anniversary of the sailing of The Mayflower from Southampton.

Helen is comfortable teaching children and adults alike; she firmly believes that it is never too late to learn a musical instrument!

Helen’s experience includes teaching one-to-one and small-group woodwind lessons in schools with Hampshire Music Service (2014 – 2017), as well as whole-class and small-group teaching in schools (2017-present) and assisting in the running of various community music events in the Southampton area.
